Snakes &
Alligators
Narrow paths lined by jungle vines
Piercing eyes near the swamps edge
As snakes slither through the leaves
Alligators below in camouflaged siege
Laying just below the water quietly
With their tails in motion underneath
Under currents from their movement
Slowly drifting along uncharted water
Lost deep into the Lagoon of Fright
Dark shadows like logs along the edge
Drifting along in search of my friend
Sun toned hues along Cajun's Ledge
Disappear beyond where skies begin
Suddenly overcast near Parallel Ridge
Delighted for the ride beyond my oars
Suddenly gliding free above the water
His head in front with his body below
Sam disappeared leaving me flying again
With his alligator tail waving in the wind
Sam is so funny with his teeth in a row
Prowling the swamp for his daily food
As Leo the snake rides along together
With seats on his back, The Gator Ferry
Escaping others wrath for alligator shoes
While my adventure of today is old news
Back at the dock, mom fishing for supper
Dad hunting the swamp for crawdad stew
Looking out over the horizon, sun setting
Every time I come home my heart is away.
